2008 Scandinavian Innovation Mission
What can suburban and community newspapers in the US and Canada learn from our colleagues
in Norway and Sweden? More than we can imagine, says Bjorn Ottersen, Newspaper Consultant
and Contractor in Scandinavia and head of the SNA Innovation Mission. Bjorn has
developed a jam-packed program that will include visits to the most innovative newspaper
companies in Scandinavia including three visits to suburban papers published by
legendary Schibsted. The program will cover all aspects with a heavy focus on digital,
design, mobile, culture, advertising and editorial.
Newspaper companies are thriving in Scandinavia. Web revenues and traffic are strong
and represent a significant portion of the top and bottom lines. Mobile technology
has been mastered in ways not even imagined in the US and Canada. Innovative design
continues to garner international attention. And, newspaper operations in Norway
and Sweden are very efficient. New techniques like "layout-driven editorial,” where
reporters file stories directly to the page and shifting much of the job of the
copy editor, continue to emerge. Plus, their print readership remains strong. Download
the program below for more information.
